The Columbarium Niche

The Ancestral Temple follows the architectural style commonly seen in clan and temple buildings found in the southeastern coastal region of Guangdong. Its design includes a courtyard surrounded by an entrance hall, a main hall, and adjoining corridors. Notably, the front façade of the structure features windows positioned higher than the average person’s height. This distinctive design element is believed to have been influenced by the Hakka people’s traditional round earthen residences, known as 梅州围龙屋, which typically have minimal fenestration located high above the ground to serve as a defensive measure against potential intruders attempting to climb into the building.
